Worcestershire On Demand

Worcestershire On Demand

A public transport service where vehicles travel on demand rather than using fixed routes and timetables.

Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) Services

DRT is a public transport service where vehicles travel on demand rather than using fixed routes and timetables. DRT has been around for some time within Worcestershire, many Community Transport and Dial-a-ride services provide essential transport to residents without access to transport.

Worcestershire County Council is now piloting the use of DRT as an alternative to fixed scheduled buses, this provided a better value and better service for essential travel. The initial pilot will focus on essential travel in Bromsgrove (Bromsgrove on Demand (BOD)).

This pilot will allow Worcestershire County Council to understand how new DRT services could operate within the County.

How does it work?

Worcestershire on Demand (WOD) buses pick you up and drop you off in the service area and not just at a bus stop. A bus picks you up at your request, changing its route so that all passengers can get to where they need to go. Worcestershire on Demand (WOD) is designed to help people make essential local journeys.

Your safety is paramount, and we’ve designed Worcestershire on Demand (WOD) to carry passengers safely. Knowing how many passengers we’re picking up means we can guarantee you a seat and maintain social distancing.

Why has Worcestershire launched DRT services?

To enable more people to use public transport again, Worcestershire County Council is working in partnership with local bus operators to provide DRT services.

Worcestershire County Council wants to understand if flexible DRT services provide a more sustainable way of transport provision compared to fixed route services.

We’ve made a few changes to the highly successful Bromsgrove on Demand (BOD) bus service

Since BOD launched, it has been a huge hit with passengers. Over 3,000 journeys are made on the service every month.

  • each journey now costs £2.50
  • concessionary passes are being accepted after 9:30am (for pre-booked journeys)
  • group booking offers are available (each additional person pays £1.25 for a journey)
