Display and provide information regarding the benefits of physical activity

Consider ways of distributing this information to staff

Pick topics related to physical activity and display information in the form of leaflets or posters on a notice board, intranet pages or put leaflets in staff recreation areas.

Display information about local physical activity groups

Consider ways of distributing this information to staff

Displays could include information about local sports clubs and exercise classes, local facilities and the sport makers volunteering programme.

Establish a Physical
activity champion who will lead in promoting physical activity
The role of the physical activity champion is to act as an advocate for physical activity in the workplace. To take a lead role in sourcing and distributing information to the workforce.

This maybe by encouraging staff to have walking meetings, take leisure walks at lunchtime and convert any convenient spaces into possible exercise class rooms.

The physical activity champion to highlight the benefits of being active to team leaders, senior staff and the workforce Examples may include agenda items on relevant meetings articles in newsletters in addition to up to date information on notice boards.

Level 3

3.6.1
Raising awareness, improving and maintaining good health
Encourage and support staff to participate in 30 minutes of physical activity, 5 times a week. You may wish to provide staff with information regarding what physical activities can be done in 30 minutes.  You may also want to praise staff who have taken part in physical activities in staff bulletins or notice boards. You could also implement a cycle to work scheme:

Provide staff with on-site facilities so they are able to participate in physical activity An example of this would be providing changing facilities or bike sheds.  You may wish to obtain mapped routes of leisure walks.

Provide at least 2 physical activity events annually for staff, their families and friends and/or the local community This may include events such as a walking group, a rounder's game, sports day event or sponsored walks.

Develop and implement an annual plan The action plan may include repeating the staff survey to ensure activities continue to meet staff need.  You may wish to develop one action plan that incorporates all or several standards
