Stoptober 2019

  • 23rd Sep 2019
  • Time: -
  • Location: Various
  • Cost: no cost

Stoptober is the annual campaign from Public Health England (PHE) that encourages smokers across the country to join in and give quitting a go during October.

Since launching in 2012, Stoptober has driven over 1.9 million quit attempts and is the biggest mass participation quit attempt in the country. Stoptober is based on research that smokers who make it to 28 days smokefree are five times more likely to quit for good.

This year’s campaign will challenge common barriers and play on motivations to quit in order to connect with England’s 6 million smokers. It will do so by encouraging them to re-evaluate their relationship with smoking and ‘split up’ with cigarettes. The campaign launches on 19th September 2019, encouraging smokers to stop smoking on 1st October.

Free resources are available and are available from the public health campaign resource centre https://campaignresources.phe.gov.uk/resources.

Further information can be found on the stoptober website https://www.nhs.uk/oneyou/for-your-body/quit-smoking/stoptober/

World Alzheimer's Month is the international campaign every September to raise awareness and challenge the stigma that surrounds dementia.

This is a great opportunity to promote the free ‘dementia friends’ awareness sessions within your organisation. A Dementia Friend is somebody that learns about dementia so they can help their community. Too many people affected by dementia feel that society fails to understand the condition they live with. Dementia Friends help by raising awareness and understanding, so that people living with dementia can continue to live in the way they want.
