County Council ElectionsMember Support UnitDemocratic Services UnitThe Democratic Services Unit are responsible for the effective day to day provision of support for the Council's decision making process. This involves the organisation and communication of information generated and received by the preparation of agenda and the production of Minutes detailing the proceedings of meetings. In pursuance of this function the Democratic Services Unit are also responsible for the provision of procedural and administrative advice at such meetings.

Also included within the work of the Unit is the production of the Council's diary and year planner detailing dates of all forthcoming meetings of the Council and its Committees and a handbook providing a series of notes for the guidance of both Officers and Councillors.

The Member Support Unit provides assistance to Councillors in pursuance of their duties through the provision of secretarial and administrative support services and organise VIP and Civic functions.

County Council elections are held every four years. Previous elections years were 1997, 2001 and 2005. The next elections are due to be held in 2009.
