Best-selling author visit inspires young readers and writers

Local schoolchildren were left inspired after a visit from 'Young Bond' author Steve Cole.

The author visited Wythall Hub on afternoon of Friday 20 May 2016. Author visits always inspire local children not only in their reading, but also give reign to their imagination for creative writing.

The prolific and accomplished author burst into the hall full of 300 children (all from local schools) and held their attention with his boundless energy over the afternoon. Emily Horton, an 11 year old from The Coppice Primary said he was the funniest author she had heard.

All the children enjoyed the range of gadgets a 1950s Young Bond spy would have at his disposal, many very cumbersome and totally impractical.

After the talk many children were able to purchase the Young Bond books and have these personally signed by Steve Cole.

Schools' Library Service Manager Dawn Woods said: "The children really enjoyed the afternoon, and were inspired not only to enjoy reading, but also to write their own stories. This visit by such a respected author has been a great start to the School-Public Library partnership the new library has engendered."
