Library information sessions

Published Tuesday, 17th May 2016

Worcestershire's Libraries will be displaying details of proposed changes to library opening hours from 23 May 2016.

Library performance data charts used to support the proposed changes will be displayed throughout the week and the public are invited to give their views or share any ideas they may have. Library managers will be available for two sessions during the week to discuss the proposed changes and answer questions.

The information sessions follow a 30 day staff consultation period and on-going engagement with the service's partners and co-located services.  There are no proposed changes to The Hive, Catshill, Warndon, Woodrow and Wythall Libraries.

Cllr Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for localism and communities said: "We are very proud of our record of keeping every library in Worcestershire open, despite the financial challenges that we are facing."

"Unfortunately we are having to consider a small reduction in library opening hours in order to achieve the savings target the council has been set. We have already analysed user activity, consulted with staff and discussed with partners, as we are determined that the changes we are introducing will have minimum effect on the people who use our libraries."

Since 2011 the Libraries and Learning Service has been required to save £2.7m, and has proudly done so without closing a single library in the county or compromising on the service received by users.   The Libraries and Learning Service have led on a libraries remodelling programme  facilitating the integration of a variety of services run by or with other public, voluntary and private sector parties within a number of libraries and have set up new partnerships  with local community groups.  This programme is ongoing and will contribute to the further £1m savings required between now and 2018/19.

Library managers will be available in the following libraries on the following dates and times:
