Only one week left to nominate your Volunteer of the Year

Published Friday, 13th May 2016

A special event to help promote and celebrate the valuable work of volunteers throughout Worcestershire is being held in June, and nominations close next week (May 20).

To coincide with Volunteers' Week, which runs from June 1-12, Worcestershire County Council is hosting the occasion on June 9 at The Hive in Worcester.

Volunteers, members of the public, council representatives and local businesses will be in attendance to help celebrate the tireless and dedicated work of volunteers in their local communities.

As part of the evening, there will also be an awards ceremony to recognise the contributions that volunteers have given and the difference they have made to lives in Worcestershire.

The categories include Fundraising Volunteer of the Year, Health and Wellbeing Volunteer of the Year, Environmental and Education Volunteer of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year, Volunteer Team of the Year, Long Standing Commitment, Newbie of the Year and Unsung Hero.

Further details on categories and the nomination form are available to download from www.worcestershire.gov.uk/actlocal

Nominations must be received by 5pm on Friday, May 20.

The event at The Hive will also give people the chance to find out more about volunteering and the valuable contribution volunteers make to the communities of Worcestershire.

There will be an information market place where voluntary organisations from across Worcestershire can network and promote volunteering roles with presentations from a number of guest speakers including Clare Marchant, chief executive of Worcestershire County Council.

The event, which is free to attend, runs from 5-7pm.

The closing date for registering to attend is 5pm on Friday, May 27.
