Worcestershire's Awesomest Book Award 2016

The closing ceremony of Worcestershire's Awesomest Book Award 2016 has taken place at County Hall.

The KS2 book award, sponsored by Softlink, is designed to foster the joy of reading and encourage pupils to access a wider range of authors and books. It has been running for three years and is growing in popularity.

It starts with the participating schools from all over the county doing Book Factor sessions where the pupils whittle down a longlist of 30 books to a shortlist of 6. They do this by spending just a couple of minutes on each book looking at the cover, reading the blurb and deciding if it is a book they would actually like to read. Pupils then read all 6 shortlisted books and vote for their favourite.

The winning title this year was 'Awful Auntie' by David Walliams and was announced at the Worcestershire's Awesomest Book Award presentation held at the Council Chambers on Tuesday 23 Feb.

Estelle Williams, Schools' Library Service Library Customer Advisor said: "At the fun filled ceremony, there was a quiz based on the shortlisted books and an inspiring talk from last year's winner Rachel Hamilton. We were also lucky enough to have with us 2 of this year's shortlisted authors, Mark Lowery and David Solomons. We are already looking forward to next year's Awesomest Award!"
