Worcestershire County Museum at Hartlebury Castle is rolling out an inexpensive calendar of fun for the whole family this summer holiday – ideal for those looking to entertain their kids and preserve
Three different children's craft activities will take place every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in August, from 10.30am-4pm.
Just a few examples of the craft activities on offer include:
Week 1 - (from Tues 4 Aug) – Dinosaurs and Monsters week including Stegosaurus Masks, Snake Mobiles, Stick Puppets and Clay Modelling
Week 2 – (from Tues 11 Aug) – Animals Week including Animal Headbands, Sealife Snappers, Origami and Brass Rubbings
Week 3 – (from Tues 18 Aug) – History Week including Egyptian Amulets, Aztec Masks, Viking Runes and Roman Arenas
Week 4 – (from Tues 25 Aug) - Pirate Week including Skull & Crossbones flags, Treasure Maps, Pirate Hats and Buccaneer Bookmarks
Our activity weeks are great value costing just £2 per child for a whole days worth of activities after the normal admission fee (which is just £13 for a family ticket).
On each Tuesday & Wednesday of August there will also be a chance to join in the have-a-go archery in the Castle's Carriage Circle (small additional cost). And of course there is over 1,000 years of history to explore within the Museum and a fun family trail to lead you round.
You may be wondering why the last week explores the theme of Pirates – well that's because we are rounding off the summer with a special Pirate themed day on the Bank Holiday (Monday 31 Aug). 'Pirate School' will be a great day out where families can come meet Captain Sharkbreath and his crew and learn how to be a pirate on the good ship Hartlebury. Lessons include reading treasure maps, making pirate flags, jobs aboard ship, singing sea-shanties, cannon drill and how to talk 'pirate'!
Rachel Robinson, The County Museum's Manager, said: "School holidays can seem endless and it can start getting really expensive keeping the kids entertained but a visit to the County Museum is affordable fun for the whole family.
"In between activities, you can take advantage of our excellent café facilities or simply bring your own picnic lunch to enjoy in our fabulous grounds.
"Throughout the summer each week has a different theme, so families can visit more than once and be assured of finding new activities to delight and inspire them as well as learning something new. And for those who do plan to come more often the Family Pass (£32) offers great value and includes admission to all craft activities and events for a year."
