Young poets from schools throughout Worcestershire will be showcasing their work on stage at Redditch later this month during an event supported by the County Council.

The Palace Theatre will be the venue for the final of the Middle Schools Poetry Slam which will be held there on Tuesday, April 28, at 7pm.

Up to 16 middle schools will be presenting their prose on stage as they compete with each other for the prize for best performance poem.

The Slams, featuring young people performing and writing in groups,
is the opening event of the Voices and Visions annual showcase of artistic talent of young people across the county. It has been sponsored by Worcestershire County Council through small grants for schools.

Led by the popular Birmingham Poet, Spoz, the theme of the event is 'It’s Good to be Me'.

County Arts Officer Steve Wilson said: "The Slam is a fantastic occasion which shows our young people off in the very best way. It's always enjoyable and is a great platform for bringing out the voices of young people and getting them to take part in arts poetry."

Tickets for the night cost £6 or £4 for concessions.
