New Book Groups Launched In Chatterbooks Week, October 13-18

Published Thursday, 9th October 2014

Chatterbooks are reading groups specifically for children aged 8–12 years who enjoy reading for pleasure and exchanging their ideas about books. As part of these celebrations Worcestershire Libraries.

Tenbury Library - October 11 at 11am and Evesham Library starting October 15 at 4pm.  Warndon Library October 25 at 2.30pm.  The dates of other new Chatterbooks groups in Wythall, Pershore and Alvechurch Libraries are still to be confirmed.

Established Chatterbooks groups at The Hive, Hagley, Rubery, Stourport, Droitwich and Bewdley meet monthly and welcome new members.

The University of Worcester is working in partnership with Worcestershire's Schools' Library Service to establish Chatterbooks groups in local primary schools. Run by student teachers, these groups help expand both the students'  and pupils range of children's books.

On Saturday, October 11 from 10am – 12 noon Droitwich Library will be encouraging children to borrow and read from their  amazing range of Star Wars books and to take part in a creative activity to design and colour a Sith mask.

Kathy Kirk, Strategic Libraries & Learning Manager said: "Chatterbooks is another great Reading Agency initiative which encourages children to read widely and for pleasure.  The Chatterbooks groups have been a really successful addition to our library's programme of regular events for young children, so it's great to see new groups being set up offering even more opportunities to take part across the county."

Bestselling author of the Tracy Beaker books Dame Jacqueline Wilson says: "I'm very proud to be Ambassador for Chatterbooks and particularly love receiving letters from children telling me how much they enjoy being in their Chatterbooks groups. Taking part in this special Chatterbooks Week is a great way to celebrate the fun and excitement of sharing books and I know that the children will have a fantastic time getting together, finding out about great books and chatting. I can't wait to hear all about it!”
