Latest Updates on the Churchfields Urban Highway Improvement Scheme
Churchfields improvement works picking up pace
Works by Worcestershire County Council to improve transport links in the Churchfields area of Kidderminster are set to pick up pace next week.
Works are already underway to convert part of Churchfields into an A-road and to redesign the Horsefair and the next phase of the improvements will see work on the A456 Ringway.
This is to prepare for the joining of the new slip road between the Ringway and Churchfields and the development of the ‘left in, left out’ junction at St Marys Street.
Part of the preparations include utility diversions by BT, Cadent Gas, Western Power Distribution and Severn Trent Water in addition to installation of new street lighting.
To allow these diversion works to take place, the inside lane of the Ringway between Lower Mill Street and the roundabout with Blackwell Street will be closed on Monday 2nd March for approximately three months.
Next Step for Churchfields improvements
Works to improve transport links in the Churchfields area of Kidderminster are set to take another step forward next month.
So far, works have focused on clearing the land on the former CMS site and a range of utility diversion works around the new entrances to the link road off the roundabout to Churchfields. The next phase of works will see part of Churchfields turned into an A-road and the reconfiguration of the Horsefair.
Works will include full reconstruction of the highway and footways and the installation of new drainage. Utility companies will also make use of the closures to undertake further work in order to minimise disruption. During these closures, diversions will be in place.
To allow these works to progress full road closures, in both areas, will be required and these are planned to start week beginning Monday 10th February 2020.
The Churchfields Urban Highway Improvement Scheme, funded by partners, is being delivered by Worcestershire County Council to help ease congestion and support the delivery of new homes planned for the area.
