Alvechurch library is holding a Love Your Library day with special guest, children’s author Mark Lowery.
Kick off the summer holiday, on Tuesday 23 July with this rare chance to meet, hear and learn from one the country’s successful children’s author.
Mark Lowery is the award-winning writer of Socks Are Not enough, Pants Are Everything and his latest The Chicken Nugget Ambush.
As a former teacher and talented writer, Mark will be using his skills to hold two sessions to help children, young people and families learn to love reading and writing and ultimately get more from their local library.
The sessions are fully interactive and genuinely entertaining with lots of laughter. In the morning, 9.30am-10.30am, Mark will be holding a family fun talk. During this session there will be fun, games and silliness with lots of tips and hints about writing. In the afternoon there will a session called Collaborative Creative Writing for adults and teens. The workshop runs from 2.15pm – 4.15pm. During this 2 hours workshop, Mark will begin with the quote "begin on the day when everything is different." Using the surroundings in the library, he will then focus on building an exciting opening that drags the reader in and intrigues them. Like branches from a tree, the session will collate and collect individual stories that celebrate the library.
Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for communities said: “We are extremely delighted to welcome Mark to our Alvechurch library for these sessions. I have seen him present at our Awesomest Book awards and I know we are in for a treat. His funny, silly, zany way of getting the message across helps children and parents alike. For all budding writers this is a free session not to be missed.”
There is no charge for either of these sessions but we ask you book ahead. We expect this to be very popular so don’t delay getting your place.
Please book at Alvechurch Library, either by popping into the library, email ALLib@worcestershire.gov.uk or through our Facebook page.
