Volunteers’ Week takes place next week and Worcestershire County Council is marking the occasion by holding an event on Monday June 3 to celebrate the contribution of volunteers in the county.
The ‘Making It Happen’ event is open to everybody who currently volunteers, as well as those who are interested in getting involved. It will see Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Communities, Councillor Lucy Hodgson, reveal details of a new Community Solution Fund.
Open to Parish and Town Councils, voluntary and community sector organisations, schools, community groups and partners, the Community Solution Fund will see £145,000 of funding during 2019/20 to address local issues. The fund will support projects that reduce demand on County Council services, and organisations will be able to bid for grants of up to £20,000.
Councillor Lucy Hodgson, Cabinet member with responsibility for communities at Worcestershire County Council said: “Many community organisations and charity organisations rely on the amazing contribution of volunteers to deliver their great work, and this event is about celebrating their achievements.
“As a County Council, we fully support community initiatives, and it’s only fitting that we’ll be using this event to reveal our new Community Solution Fund, which we hope will make a significant impact on the delivery of local good cause projects.”
Taking place between 5-7pm, the event will also feature hear inspirational keynote speakers from groups including Worcestershire Voices and Worcestershire Carers Association.
It will follow another event for County Council staff earlier in the day, showcasing the ways that the organisation can support employees in volunteer efforts.
