Excitement is building throughout the region as Redditch prepares to welcome the first round for both the women's and men's elite Tour Series races on Thursday 9th May.
The races kick off at 3.25pm with the inaugural Inter-Services Championship race, which will see the very best of our Army, Navy and RAF cyclists racing against each other. The OVO Energy Tour Series elite women's race commences at 5.30pm which will be followed by the elite men's race at 7.00pm.
Lorna Jeynes, Business Growth & Engagement Manager from Worcestershire County Council, said: "We're thrilled that the OVO Energy Tour Series will head to Redditch once again this year, for the eighth year in succession and for the third year running as host to the opening round.
With a large television audience tuning in on ITV4 and an estimated 15,000 spectators, it promises to be an amazing spectacle and a great day for the county!"
The event village will be open from 12pm with live music. Community events, autograph sessions and the Redditch Ride It starts from 4pm and the opening ceremony will take place at 5.25pm.
A local race guide with event timings will be available for free from the Kingfisher Shopping Centre Customer Service or the event village on the day.
Elite men’s and women’s races will take place on the same 0.9-mile (1.4km) Town Centre circuit that has been used since 2012, a testing course that features the challenging climb of Unicorn Hill to end.
Redditch Ride It, hosted by Redditch Borough Council, gives anyone the opportunity to ride the pro course prior to the main races. For more details, see https://www.redditchbc.gov.uk/things-to-do/events-in-redditch/tour-series-redditch.aspx
