Councillor Brandon Clayton, one of the County Councillors representing Redditch North has been elected to be the new Chairman of Worcestershire County Council for the civic year 2018/19.
He becomes the first councillor from a Redditch Division to serve as Chairman since the County Council was reorganised twenty years ago.
Born in Birmingham the 63 year old has lived with his wife Anita in Redditch for 37 years.
Prior to the last general election Councillor Clayton worked for five years as a researcher for the then Redditch MP Karen Lumley.
He was elected to the County Council in 2017 and was previously a councillor at County Hall between 2009 and 2013.
After being elected as Chairman he said:
"It is a great honour for me to become the new chairman of Worcestershire County Council. Anne Hingley has done a wonderful job over the last twelve months and it has been a privilege to work with her as her Vice-Chairman. My priority for the next year will be to work hard to bring councils and councillors from across Worcestershire together. I am proud to live in Worcestershire and working with all parts of the county. I plan to do everything I can to promote the best of Worcestershire."
Peter Tomlinson, the County Councillor for Ombersley has been elected to be Worcestershire County Council's Vice Chairman.
