Library activities to celebrate royal wedding

Activities across the county are encouraging children and families to get that royal wedding fever.

The Hive in Worcester, as well as the council's other 23 libraries including Redditch, Rubery and Bromsgrove will be hosting a range of activities and events in the run up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's big day.

 

Libraries will host make and take sessions where children can create items such as crowns for them to wear over the weekend's celebrations.

 

On the wedding day itself, Saturday 19 May, there will be activities sessions taking place at the Hive. These include royal story time, crafting bunting and a special make and take session where children can make their own prince or princess crown to take home with them.

 

Across the week leading up to the wedding, families will also be encouraged to take part in the royal wedding trail which will lead them through The Hive on a journey to discover more about the royals. 

 

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Communities said: "It's great that libraries across the county are participating in royal wedding activities to help children and families get excited about the big day. Libraries across the county are a great focal point for communities and provide a great space for residents to come together and celebrate.”

 

Laura Worsfold, Business Development Manager for The Hive, said: "These sessions are aimed at getting children and families excited for the royal wedding while decorating The Hive with their own unique style ready for the big day.

 

"Here at The Hive we are wishing the royal couple congratulations and send them our best wishes for their lives ahead together."

 

On Sunday 13 May, The story time sessions at the Hive between 11am and 2.45pm will be taking a royal spin helping children to get excited for the big day. If that wasn’t enough there will be the opportunity to make craft bunting and help decorate the Children's Library throughout the day.

 

Wednesday 16 May, 1.30pm sees a special Royal Wacky Wednesday as well as more royal story time. 

 

On Thursday 17 May, Between 4pm - 5pm Redditch Library will be running its own royal themed make and take session where the children can make fascinators, ties and cards to send to the royal couple. This session is free, simply drop in.
