Children are being encouraged to get reading this Christmas with the return of the Winter Mini Reading Challenge.

The Winter Mini Challenge, began on Monday 11 December and finishes on Friday 12 January 2018.

The Winter Mini Challenge is run through the Summer Reading Challenge website.

To take part, children are asked to choose and read three books over the winter holidays, and leave a short book review of each on their Summer Reading Challenge profile.

Worcestershire Libraries taking part in this challenge include The Hive, Tenbury, Warndon Pershore and Kidderminster.

Carol Brown, Service Manager, Libraries & Culture at Worcestershire County Council, said:

"We're delighted The Hive is taking part in this year's Winter Mini Challenge, it's a real opportunity for children to discover the magic of books, and a great initiative to improve their reading skills this Christmas.

We look forward to seeing children in The Hive over the Winter holidays, both existing and new members; hopefully with lots of tales to tell about the stories they have read during their break".

Once the challenge is completed, children will unlock a virtual badge and a special Star Wars certificate which they can print off and keep.

Any new books added to the website, whilst the Challenge is taking place, will count towards earning rewards.
