A new academy for social workers in Worcestershire is to be launched by the County Council.

The Social Work Academy will be for social workers who work with both children and adults in Worcestershire.

The Academy will be a one-stop-shop for new recruits and experienced social workers to access training and to develop their careers.

Catherine Driscoll, Director of Children's, Families and Communities said: "The Social Work Academy will really focus our approach on our social work development".

"Social work is a fantastic career, it's all about transforming the lives of people in Worcestershire so we're focusing on an academy that develops and supports social work education, career progression, learning and development opportunities."

"Above all, it'll be something that celebrates the great work that social work does."

Worcestershire County Council employs around 350 social workers who work together to improve the lives of children and young people in the county and support the county's most vulnerable adults.

Councillor Adrian Hardman, Cabinet Member for Adult Services said: "We want Worcestershire's social workers to be the best that they can be to provide excellent services to children, families and to the vulnerable adults who need their support".

"Supporting and retaining our workforce is extremely important to us. The Social Work Academy will bring together, in one place, all of the excellent training and professional development that we are already doing".

"Worcestershire is an excellent place to live and work and the Social Work Academy will help us to attract even more of the very best social workers to the county."

The Social Work Academy is to be launched in the New Year. It will be a comprehensive information hub that all Worcestershire County Council social workers will be encouraged to use to enhance their skills and knowledge.

It is designed to enable social workers at all levels of experience to easily access training.
