"I'm surprised that just 10 minutes of exercise a day can make you feel so good."
Those are the words of Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing Councillor John Smith who committed to Active 10 at the start of the month.
Every day, Councillor Smith has been walking briskly for ten minutes, whether that's while at work, home or on holiday.
"I've been doing Active 10 for the past month and I have really noticed the difference. I feel like I'm not so short of breath, don't get as tired quickly and best yet, can walk briskly for longer now," he said.
"I'm surprised that just ten minutes of exercise a day can make you feel so good and I'm interested to see how walking for longer will make me feel. I'll certainly be committing to longer walks now and monitoring my health on an ongoing basis.
"It's never too late to start being active, and I encourage everyone in Worcestershire, particularly those who don't do any exercise, to get out and try their brisk ten minutes."
Recent evidence from Public Health England has shown that walking at a brisk pace can help prevent long term illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes, ease performance of everyday activities, improve mood and helps contribute to a healthier weight and lifestyle.
There are lots of ways to get your daily ten minutes' walk in, from stepping out at lunchtime to walking to work or the shops. The free Active 10 app monitors your daily movements and shows you how much brisk walking you're doing daily. Download the app from http://po.st/Active10_Worcestershire
