Residents in Redditch will start to receive information about the Rewarding Redditch campaign this week (from Monday 11th September) inviting them to register for the campaign and start earning points for reducing their waste.

The campaign, being run by Greenredeem on behalf of Worcestershire County Council and Redditch Borough Council, encourages residents to undertake activities to reduce their waste. Activities range from buying a compost bin through to repairing and reusing items. In return residents are rewarded with points which can be redeemed for vouchers, money off at local businesses or donated to a local charity.

Other ways to gain points include presenting recycling clean and loose in the green bin and not put into plastic bags. And every month the community that generates the most points will be rewarded with bonus points for all of those signed up to the scheme. This is a great way for communities to work together to reduce waste; you can even earn points for telling your neighbours about the scheme.

Cllr Tony Miller, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for the Environment at Worcestershire County Council, said: "This is an exciting campaign and we are really looking forward to seeing how the residents of Redditch respond to it. We hope they will embrace the campaign totally and look at the amount of waste they are generating and use the activities to reduce what they put into their grey bin. There are so many ways that communities and individual residents can earn their rewards which means that everyone can participate and in return local businesses and charities benefit."

Cllr Debbie Chance, portfolio holder for Environmental Services at Redditch Borough Council, said: "I can't wait to sign up and start earning my rewards and I hope as many residents in the borough will do the same. "Reducing waste is easier than a lot of people realise and these activities will show residents how to effectively cut the contents of their bin. With local businesses and charities benefiting from the scheme as well it's a win-win for everyone."

Although the scheme goes officially live on 1st October, residents can register and start earning points immediately and learn about how the campaign works. Any resident who registers before 1st October will be entered into a draw to win a £20 Love to Shop voucher. The activities and the points they earn will be go live on the website from 1st October.
