One of the fastest growing companies in Worcestershire has been awarded a prestigious Queen's Award.

The Smart Actuator Company, a family owned firm has been presented with the Queen's Award for Enterprise and Innovation.

The Malvern based company was awarded for its innovative thinking around the energy efficiency and smart technology of actuators.

Cllr Ken Pollock, Cabinet Member for Economy and Infrastructure at Worcestershire County Council, said: "I am always thrilled to see businesses such as the Smart Actuator Company reaping the benefits of a national accolade like the Queen's Award, having spent years developing an innovative USP.

Cllr Pollock added: "The County is full of examples of similar businesses who are quietly transforming the economic and business landscape of Worcestershire. They are able to lean on an innovative and dynamic workforce, which helps to promote the county nationally as Open for Business, and a great place to invest. I was also very impressed at the large number of apprentices Smart Actuator employ, guaranteeing a skilled workforce as they expand their business. Well done to all involved."

Worcestershire is the fastest growing county in the country when it comes to productivity and has long been a melting pot of dynamic and individualistic entrepreneurs and inventors, such as the team at The Smart Actuator Company.

Tonya O’Donnell, Marketing Director at The Smart Actuator Company said of the award: “The recognition of the Queen’s Awards is a great achievement for the whole team. We would also like to thank our local Chamber of Commerce and LEP along with the British Valve & Actuator Association and Department for International Trade whose support has been invaluable to the success and growth of our business”.

Worcestershire Innovation (WINN), an innovation hub run by Worcestershire County Council and its partners, is one example of how innovation is shared among the business community. At its core WINN is a catalyst for ideas and business innovation and gives local businesses a platform in which to share ideas and speak with likeminded professionals.

On presenting the award to The Smart Actuator Company the Vice Lord-Lieutenant The Hon Lady Morrison said: "I very much enjoyed being shown around the Smart Actuator Company and learning more about their innovative products.  I can see immediately why this company has won The Queen's Award for Enterprise in Innovation, and I may say against formidable competition from thousands of competing companies around the Country.  I was delighted to be able to present this Award today to such an inspiring family business."
