Large crowds turned out in Redditch yesterday for one of the county's biggest sporting events of the year.
The Tour Series event attracted Britain's fastest men's and women's cycling teams to race around a 1.4 kilometre circuit in Redditch town centre.
While the racing was on hundreds of people showed their support for the launch of a campaign to improve the lives of Worcestershire's children and young people.
Cycling fans at the Tour Series event in Redditch were the first people in the county encouraged to put their handprint onto a wall of support.
Catherine Driscoll, Our Director of Children, Families and Communities at Worcestershire County Council said: "Our aim is to improve the lives of our children and young people. We are putting children and young people at the heart of everything we do and we are encouraging people from across the county to show their support. Working with our partners, with the support of local people we will improve outcomes for the county’s children".
This is the sixth year that, supported by Worcestershire County Council, the Tour Series has been staged in Redditch. Every year the event attracts thousands of visitors.
Rider for Team Story, Beth Crumpton said: “It is a great feeling racing the Tour Series and I was honoured to be a part of Team Story.
"I’m always excited and nervous at the same time to race it, it’s frantic racing which gets the adrenaline pumping and the atmosphere that comes along with it is unlike any other racing we get in the UK, everyone is excited to watch it and be a part of it.”
