Joining and Reserving Music

Based at Perryfields PRU, just behind St John's Library, Worcestershire Music Library is now run in partnership with Elgar School of Music and Worcestershire County Council.

It covers a wide range of music from carols to operas and from simple orchestral arrangements for schools to symphonies.

It has one of the largest collections of vocal scores, band, chamber and orchestral music in the country.

Membership is available on request via email.

Email the Music Library to request membership

When you have joined the music library you are able to request music by completing the online Music Borrower Application form which will be emailed to you, or via email.

Email the Music Library to reserve Music Resources

If you do not have access to email you can contact the music library on the telephone number above or call in when they are open.

The usual notice required to borrow a music set is one month. All requests are dealt with on a first come, first served basis, but the more notice you can give us the better.

Worcestershire music library items are listed as 'vocal set' or 'orch set' (orchestral) on the catalogue. If works are not available from the Music Library Collection we may be able to give you details of other sources and possible locations from where you can obtain it.

All groups using music from the County Music Collection for a public performance are asked to mention the source in their programmes.

There is no restriction, within reason, on the number of works, which may be borrowed at any one time.

The normal loan period is three months. Sets can be loaned for longer periods if advance notification is given but additional hire charges will be incurred. Borrowers are requested to return the works complete to ensure future borrowers speedy access to the service; there are overdue charges if items are not returned on time.

Orchestral Scores

Standard Three-month Loan:

£1 per part, plus postage, if applicable (see below).

We will ask borrowers to specify what orchestration they want, especially the number of strings / percussion. We will keep the spares in the library to await the return of the rest. If the borrowers realise after a rehearsal that they need extra parts, these will also cost £1 each but not attract a postal charge.

For those cases where the 3-month loan is not adequate we will negotiate individually with the borrower.

Choral / Vocal Scores

Standard Three-month Loan: £1 per part, plus postage, if applicable

  • for part-songs, or vocal scores with less than 12 pages of music, the charge will be 50p per part plus postage.
  • for orders of more than 100 scores, the charge will be a flat £100 plus postage.

For those cases where the 3-month loan is not adequate we will negotiate individually with the borrower.

Fees for not returning or damaging scores

There will be a charge of £15 for any vocal or instrumental part which is either not returned, or is returned in an unusable condition.

Collection / Despatch

Music can be collected from Glebe Close during the opening hours listed above.  If the music is to be despatched the following fees will apply:

  • 0-10 Kilograms: £22
  • 11-30 Kilograms: £32
  • Anything greater than 30 Kg will be charged at 60p per Kg.

This fee will cover both despatch and collection from the borrower by our chosen partner, TNT.
