British Empire Medal presented to MacMillan Cancer volunteer

Published: Thursday, 30th May 2019 BEM presentation

Mrs Samantha Schiaffino was presented with her British Empire Medal by Lt Col Patrick Holcroft LVO OBE, the Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire . She receives her medal for services to Macmillan Cancer.

Through her work at Npower, Mrs Schiaffino became involved with MacMillan Cancer Support in 2014, taking part in their Buddying Scheme.  This involves volunteers offering their time to help those living with cancer by doing odd jobs, going along on visits to the hospital or just being around to have a chat. During this time she became a true friend to the people she was buddied with and a real help to people going through such a difficult time in their lives.

Mrs Schiaffino has also raised many thousands of pounds for the charity, taking part in fundraising events and chairing the community committee where she works.

The Mayor of Worcester and thirty members of Mrs Schiaffino's family and friends attended the investiture which took place on 29th May at the Guildhall in Worcester.
