Background

As part of the Autumn Statement 2016, the Government, via the Department for Transport (DfT) announced the creation of a National Productivity Investment Fund (NPIF) for investment in areas that are key to boosting productivity including a total of £1.1bn for local roads.

The Department for Transport (DfT) invited Local Authorities to bid for a share of this funding for schemes meeting the core aims of the fund to:

  1. ease congestion and provide upgrades on important national, regional or local routes
  2. unlock economic and job creation opportunities
  3. enable the delivery of new housing developments

Worcestershire County Council won two separate bids for part of this fund worth £6.6.

£3.4m of which is this scheme in Bromsgrove and £3.2 for Worcester.
