Construction is about to start at the new Worcestershire Parkway Station.
The area for the 500 space car park is now cleared and groundworks are complete, paving the way for construction to begin. The foundations are being laid now for construction of the main station building.

The steel frame building will begin to take shape over the coming months as well as the footbridge over the railway line from Woodbury Lane.

To support easy access to the station, a new roundabout is to be built and the road widened near the station site on the B4084. Work starts from 5th March until the end of September and temporary traffic lights will be in place. Half of the existing carriageway will be removed so the signals will be in operation 24/7 for the duration of the works. The signals will be manually operated during the day and sensor-controlled overnight and at weekends.


Worcestershire Parkway forms part of the wider £50million plus rail investment programme in Worcestershire and is a key part of the longer term Worcestershire Rail Investment Strategy.

This scheme will provide sustainable access to regional and national destinations by rail, including the south-west, north-east, London and the Thames Valley. This will significantly enhance Worcestershire’s connectivity with the UK’s key economies and encourage economic growth and development within the county.

Located to the east of Junction 7 of the M5, the station will be accessible for commuters from all over the county. Currently, some commuters travel outside of the county to Birmingham or Warwickshire Parkway to get a train to London or the North.

An objective of Worcestershire Parkway is to also remove existing regional and national car journeys from the strategic road network, thereby reducing road traffic congestion.

Funding for total scheme comes from a variety of sources including: „

  • Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership „
  • Developer / Third Party contributions

Key Priorities

The key rail priorities for Worcestershire County Council and its partners are:

  • to deliver improvements to rail services and infrastructure in Worcestershire to meet Central and Local Government expectations that the rail network should actively support economic growth
  • to address Worcestershire's current poor accessibility to and from London arising from the limited frequency and length of journey time of North Cotswold Line services
  • to transform access to the rail network for Worcestershire passengers currently restricted by minimal car parking capacity and limited opportunities for expansion at other County stations
  • to tackle Worcestershire's exclusion from the Cross Country network (Bristol-Birmingham-North West/North East). Despite the services passing through the very heart of the County, rail access is only viable by making connections at Birmingham New Street and Cheltenham Spa. This must be addressed as it severely restricts the County's economic relationship with other parts of the United Kingdom

All four factors lead to increased car use for strategic journeys which would otherwise be made by rail. There is also a significant use by Worcestershire residents of alternative regional stations, notably Birmingham International and Warwick Parkway leading to avoidable use of congested sections of the local and strategic road networks.

Scheme Details

The new station will be built to serve both railway lines when it comes into use, and will include:

  • a car park with a capacity of up to 500 spaces (including disabled parking) designed to current standards in terms of lighting, CCTV, ticketing, customer facilities and information
  • a fully accessible modern station building with toilets, ticket desk, and a retail facility
  • a single platform on the North Cotswold Line and two platforms on the Birmingham to Bristol Line that will be fully accessible
  • secure cycle storage, motor cycle parking and electric car charging points
  • direct access to local bus services through a bus/rail interchange
  • taxi rank and drop off/pick up point
  • roundabout access to the station from the B4084

The site for the station lies within a rural environment and the scheme will take account of and mitigate against any environmental impact the development might have.
