What are school governors?
Governors are volunteers who work in close partnership with the headteacher to run the school to the highest standards of educational achievement for all pupils.
Who can be a governor?
Almost everyone over 18 can become a governor.

What makes a good governor?
- the ability to apply common sense
- enthusiasm and commitment to improve the quality of education the school provides
- the time to attend meetings and visit the school
- willingness to attend training
The School Governors' One-Stop Shop (SGOSS) is an independent charity dedicated to recruiting volunteers to serve on governing bodies across England. You can also find information about volunteering as a school governor by visiting the SGOSS website.
Worcestershire Governors Services
Governor Services offer a wide range of support services to governing bodies of maintained schools, to academies and out of county schools that sign up to the Governor Services support package. This service is provided for Worcestershire County Council by Babcock Prime.
