Electric Vehicle Chargepoints in Worcestershire
Electric vehicles are becoming much more popular and it's easy to see why. Electric vehicles have no tailpipe emissions, so help to reduce air pollution – cleaning up the air we breathe in our towns and cities. They are cheap to run, great to drive and can also help to reduce carbon emissions. Worcestershire County Council has installed a number of rapid chargepoints around the county to provide convenient charging in minutes for drivers of electric vehicles.
Our thanks go to all of our host sites in Worcestershire who agreed to host or own a rapid chargepoint as part of this project.

Using the Chargepoints
If you are considering owning an electric vehicle, these rapid chargepoints are a very useful facility – charging your car in just 20-30 minutes, these chargepoints make recharging quick and convenient.
The chargepoints have three connectors (with tethered cables) – Type 2, CHAdeMO and CCS.
All the rapid chargepoints installed by Chargemaster on behalf of Worcestershire County Council are available for 'pay as you go' use through the Charge Your Car network. The current tariff to use the chargepoints 'pay as you go' is £5.50 for up to 45 minutes, and then 15p per minute for every minute after. A per minute tariff operates after the initial 45 minute period to encourage drivers to disconnect and move their vehicle once they have finished charging, therefore freeing up the chargepoint for the next driver.
Electric vehicle drivers can pay for charging through a variety of routes:
- Charge Your Car RFID card
- Charge Your Car automated phone payment system - 0191 260 5625
- Charge Your Car app
The status of each chargepoint, (whether it's in use or idle), can be viewed through the Charge Your Car app or website. If you wish to order a Charge Your Car RFID card, please visit the Charge Your Car website.
If you will be using the chargepoints regularly, then it may be worth considering Chargemaster's Polar Plus membership scheme, which can also be used to access the chargepoints. Membership costs around £7.85 a month and then the chargepoints will cost 9p per kWh (ex VAT) to use. For more information please visit the Polar Plus website.
Find out how to use the electric vehicle rapid chargepoints across Worcestershire. This film shows how to connect a Nissan Leaf, but much of the process is the same regardless of the electric vehicle you drive. The film shows a driver using a CYC card, again, the process is very similar if you are using a different method to access. It will work in the same way with a Polar membership card. If you are accessing the chargepoint via the app or phone payment system, you will be given instructions through these options
This project was 75% funded by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV), and 25% by Chargemaster.
The chargepoints will remain operational and fully maintained for at least three years from mid-2015.
Any queries regarding the chargepoints should be directed to Ruth Corrall (please call the Worcestershire Hub on 01905 763763).
