Floods and Drainage What we do

Worcestershire County Council is responsible for maintaining highway drainage. If you have a problem with highway drainage contact your local hub on 0845 6072005. Or alternatively use the online report it form Reporting Highways Defects Online

The County Council is responsible for the removal of surface water from the carriageway and footway as quickly as possible under normal weather conditions.

Drainage

There is a lot of confusion over who is responsible for a blocked drain. People often think that blocked drains are the responsibility of The district council or Severn Trent Water but this is not the case.

Responsibilities for removal of blockages or repairing defective pipes depend upon whether or not the sewer is classed as "PUBLIC" or "PRIVATE", but determination between the two is not always easy.

River Flooding

The devastation that can be caused by flooding was clearly evident from the Worcestershire floods in Easter 1998 and November 2000. Worcestershire is regularly subjected to flooding and therefore, we must be prepared at all times, to respond to the risk of flooding.

Major flooding in Worcestershire is usually caused by flooding of major rivers and watercourses, or flash flooding, due to intense localised rainfall
