The consultation deadline on the proposed boundary change between Sidemoor First School and Meadows First School in Bromsgrove was 30th June 2005. The consultation resulted in 6 telephone calls to the LEA. Most of these were from people who required clarification of various points. Two letters were received from mothers of pre-school age children complaining that the change would disrupt their proposed childcare arrangements.
As the proposed change satisfies the principles for the design of catchment areas, is acceptable to the management of both schools, and Councillors representing local divisions, and has not provoked a widescale protest from parents, the revised catchment area boundary will operate for admissions to the reception class in September 2006 and thereafter.
Worcestershire County Council are proposing to rebuild several schools in the Bromsgrove District under a PFI programme, subject to the granting of planning permission.
Sidemoor First School will be moving to a green field site between Perryfields Road and Grayshott Close / Lynden Close, hopefully at Easter 2007. The new school will be larger than the existing school and the planned admission number for the reception class will be increased from 40 to 60 from September 2006. There will be a temporary classroom at the current site for two terms to accommodate the extra 20 pupils until the school moves.
Meadows First School will be rebuilt on the current site in Stourbridge Road. The new school will be smaller than the existing buildings and the planned admission number for the reception class will be reduced from 90 to 60 from September 2006.
Changing the sizes of both schools, and the relocation of Sidemoor First School, necessitate a revision to the catchment area boundary between them. Worcestershire County Council Education Services Directorate and the heads and governing bodies of the two schools have agreed a proposed boundary change which will balance the numbers of known children due to enter school in or after September 2006 and place children in the catchment area for their nearest school.
No other schools are affected directly by the proposal.
The LEA is now consulting on the proposal. The map shows:
