Good News Stories from Bishops Wood

Moth Trapping Night

Once again, a very successful Moth Trapping Night was held at Bishops Wood in August 2007.

Peacock Moth There were two notable catches during the night, the first being a Peacock Moth, which is a moth that is local to the West Midlands area. This is only the third Worcestershire record of a sighting of this moth, the second being in a garden close to the Centre.

This would indicate that a small breeding colony could be established in the woods here at Bishop Wood.  The larva feed on birch and sallow, of which there is plenty in this area.

The second exciting trapping was of two Poplar Lutestring, this is another first record for the wood here at the Centre. This species is classified as a National Local. in Worcestershire. It is an uncommon local resident, and feeds on Aspen in ancient woodland. It can also be found in Monkwood and Trench wood locally. Popular Lutestring
