Starting Family History
Tuesday 23rd September, 7-9pm (6 weeks)

Would you like to begin looking into your family’s history or find out more about the main genealogical sources? This popular introductory course will take you though the main sources and skills needed to get started. Led by the Record Office’s researcher, there will be an opportunity each week to put the theory into practice by using the History Centre resources to start your search.


Find your Place in Local History

This research class, which has run for over 20 years, gives you the opportunity to study a topic of your choice in depth over 20 weeks in the company of other enthusiastic people. Beginners are welcome and an experienced local historian will be your tutor to guide you each week.

Exploring Ancestry.co.uk
Worcestershire History Centre

The Ancestry website, available free in the History Centre, has a wealth of information available to help you with your family history, but how do you know how to make the most of it?  Get tips based on our experiences. There are two different sessions, a guide to the census, and one looking at the other sources. You can come to both or just one.

  • Starting Ancestry – The Census

Find out about how the census was created, the pitfalls and search tips.

  • Ancestry – Beyond the Census

Find out about other family history sources on Ancestry including Civil Registration, Pallot’s Marriage & Baptism Indexes, Transportation lists, World War I Records and Parish Registers.

Discovering Military Ancestors

A repeat of last year’s lecture, which was sold out. Find out what sources are available for finding out about any army ancestors that you may have in your family.

If you have never used the History Centre before and wonder what to do and how you would get started, then these sessions are aimed at you. Book a thirty-minute appointment with a member of staff who will explain how to get started and demystify what we do here.


Trip to The National Archives, Kew

Join us on a coach trip to The National Archives, home to many of our national records. Some of the most popular include the military records and those from the Assizes.

Want to know what websites are the best ones to use for tracing your ancestors? Come along to one of these sessions and get expert advice from Record Office staff. Sessions are held aboard the Library Comput@bus and places are free but need to be booked in advance at the host library.


Worcestershire On Film
A free programme of documentaries, news reels and home-movies, offering a window on Worcestershire’s history.  This is part of a Heritage Lottery Funded project promoting the archive films from Worcestershire Record Office and the Media Archive for Central England, presented by 7 inch cinema.

Screenings last approximately 1 hour. There are no advance tickets available.
