Navigation Courses

The Centre offers a range of Theory based courses leading to RYA qualifications including;

• Introduction to navigation course
  Duration 16 hours usually run over a single weekend
• Day Skipper
  A 52 hour course usually run over a series of 26 evenings. A comprehensive introduction to chart work, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship.
• Yacht master
  Building on knowledge gained on the Day Skipper course this takes navigation to the next level including more complex calculations required for taking boats on longer passages.

Graduates of the Shore-based Day Skipper and Yacht master theory courses will gain the knowledge required should they wish to undertake the separate five day Practical Assessment for the full Certificate.

Dinghy sailing Tuition

Throughout the year there are a range of opportunities to join other like minded novice adventure seekers either at weekends or on summer evenings.

Upton Warren OEC runs a number of courses for Adults commencing at Level 1 or 2, which assume no previous knowledge, or more advance courses including teaching the use of spinnakers or learning to race.

Alternatively our experienced instructors are available to give tuition at your convenience, with a course tailor made to meet your needs at a time that suits you.

Canoeing and Kayaking Tuition

Personal tuition or fun days out for groups of friends either on the lake at Upton Warren or on a local river can be arranged through the Centre.

Tuition is available at all levels from novice through to instructor training following the British Canoe Union coaching scheme.

Alternatively a relaxed journey by open canoe down either the River Severn or the Wye with a picnic on route can be planned for groups with little or no experience who are just looking for a day out with family or friends.

Adult Adventure Days

Adventure Days can be booked by groups, with the day tailored to meet their own requirements, from a selection of activities. (Groups are usually staffed at a ratio of one Centre instructor to 8 participants and charges will reflect this optimum ratio.)
