School Workforce Development and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Welcome to the School Workforce Development (Continuing Professional Development) Programme for 2008 – 2009. There is significant activity in relation to CPD both nationally and regionally; and here in Worcestershire we are pleased to be in the forefront of CPD developments. There is now clear research evidence about what constitutes effective CPD and we continue, with all of our partners, to ensure that the County Programme supports effective learning for all staff in our schools, and to support the Children’s agenda. The Programme includes details of all support across Children’s Services.

We hope that the Programme will assist discussions about CPD needs and opportunities for staff, as well as support your planning and performance management processes.

The format reflects our local and the national priorities, and improves accessibility for all staff. We have therefore retained the four booklets introduced last year:

A very important change this year is the inclusion of a fifth booklet:

Our Programme consists of a range of events, courses, meetings and conferences. Sometimes we offer a series of courses, or there is some kind of collaborative and sustained activity linked to the course. In many cases there are opportunities to engage in action research linked to course attendance, and to gain external recognition or accreditation. Where these opportunities are not built into courses themselves, and where they could be described as single courses, we expect that you will be maximising the benefit of course attendance through follow up in school, either through individual development plans or through team and whole school activities.
