Worcestershire’s Local Transport Plan for 2006-11 (LTP2) was published in March 2006, and has been submitted to Government. LTP2 outlines the transport strategy for the County for the next five years, and details priority projects for the improvement of transport within Worcestershire.

A Summary document has been published, and will be widely circulated to organisations with an interest in transport issues, including public bodies such as Parish Councils. The Summary includes a CD containing the full LTP2 strategy, plus supporting documents such as the Accessibility Strategy and the Strategic Environment Assessment.

In July 2006, the Council submitted further reports and funding bids to Government. These are:

• Local Transport Plan Delivery Report – a document reviewing the achievements of the first Local Transport Plan over the past five years (2001-06)
• Transport Innovation Fund bid – a bid for pump priming funds to undertake a further phase of the Worcester transportation study, including a pilot project to test different demand management measures within the city. £400,000 of Government funding is being sought, which will be match funded by the County Council.
• Worcestershire’s Bridges – a bid for £11.4 million of funding over the next three years (2007-10) has been submitted for a major programme of bridge repair and refurbishment across the County. This focuses on bridges over the Rivers Severn, Avon and Teme, and if successful will enable early progress to be made in the improvement of Worcestershire’s bridges.
• Maintenance Funding for De-trunked Roads – a bid for just over £1 million has been submitted for a programme of maintenance and bridgeworks on those sections of the A38 that were previously looked after by the Highways Agency. Whilst responsibility for these roads has passed to the County Council, the funding required for maintenance works has not fully passed over, hence the need for a special bid.
• New rail franchises – the County Council’s response to the draft specification published by Government for the new West Midlands and Cross Country franchises was submitted on 7 August 06. This includes the latest feasibility work carried out for the Worcestershire Parkway station proposal that is a key project within LTP2.

The Local Transport Plan 2006-2011 for Worcestershire has been submitted to central government, this is the culmination of two years work including two rounds of public consultation. We are therefore confident that this plan embodies the aspirations of both the County Council and people of Worcestershire in their vision for transportation within the projected period and in preparation for the long term requirements of the future.
