Expressions of interest are invited from organisations that may be interested in working with the Council and NHS Worcestershire to lead on GP engagement in support for carers.

A recent strategic review of carers support services in Worcestershire identified the need to engage with GP Practices across the county to improve their support for informal adult carers.

GP Practices are often the first point of contact for new carers when their caring responsibilities arise as a result of illness, disability or frailty of a relative, partner or friend.
Yet the majority of carers are not identified at this stage and for many it is years into their caring life before they are recognised as such, while we know that it is a priority for carers to receive information advice and support at the start of their caring life to help them plan and deal with the issues they are likely to face.

Therefore it is vital that all health professionals based at GP Practices have awareness and understanding of the needs of carers, are positively engaged in identifying and recording carers registered with their practice (whether as patients or carers of patients), consider their caring needs when providing services, and support them to access appropriate services within the community.

Worcestershire County Council and NHS Worcestershire are keen to understand whether there are dedicated and understanding organisations who would be interested in taking a lead on engaging with GP Practices across the county to achieve the above aims.

If your organisation is committed to these aims and would be interested in any potential tendering for this piece of work in the future we would like to hear from you.

If so please forward an expression of your organisations interest demonstrating your commitment to the above aims not exceeding one side of A4.

Should we decide to formally tender for this work we are anticipating advertising this in December 2009
