Common Induction for the Children and Young People's
Workforce

What Is It?
The Children and Young People's Development Council (CWDC), has
developed a set of visions and principles for induction for all
those who work with children, young people and families in
England.
These visions and principles for induction are to bring the
children and young people's workforce towards a common
understanding and direction on induction.
The aim is to establish an expectation that everyone in the
workforce should have an induction based on the common core of
skills and knowledge for the children's workforce (the common core
of skills and knowledge), tailored appropriately to their role and
setting.
The Common Core of Skills and Knowledge for the children's
workforce sets out the basic skills and knowledge needed by all
people (including volunteers), whose work brings them into regular
contact with children, young people and their families. The skills
and knowledge are described under six main headings:
- Effective communication and engagement with children, young
people and their families.
- Child and young person development.
- Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child.
- Supporting transitions.
- Multi-agency working.
- Sharing information.
