Road Safety Education

To reduce the number of injury accidents involving children within Worcestershire, we offer a number of education programmes through schools:

This exercise, designed for years five and six, aims to make children aware of relationship between speed and distance and how this effects the time it takes for a vehicle to stop. The children watch a DVD before participating in practical exercises on the road, which includes measuring a 50 metre distance and timing vehices passing over this with a stopwatch to reveal the speed of the vehicle. The children also receive a work pack that they can complete during future sessions in the classroom.

  •   Pre-driver training

A programme of pre-driver training is being delivered to high schools in partnership with the West Mercia Police, Hereford and Worcester Fire Brigade, West Mercia Safer Roads Partnership and Road craft. The course will run in all the High Schools in Worcestershire, commencing November 2009, especially targeting year 11.

Students will participate in an interactive theatrical performance completed by Tiny Giants. This is followed up with workshops over the following weeks concluding with an off road driving course by Road Craft on specially risk assessed sites in Worcestershire.

The course aims to raise awareness of safe driving skills.
