Kidderminster Railway Station
The project at Kidderminster Railway Station is a £3.595million
project to upgrade the facilities at the station to the standards
rail travellers expect in the 21st Century. The County
Council is working in partnership with Network Rail, the Severn
Valley Railway, Kidderminster Railway Museum, bus and rail
operating companies and Wyre Forest District Council.

There are four parts to the project.
- A new station building and improved passenger facilities
- A new layout on the station forecourt with improved facilities
for bus services
- An improved walking connection from the new station building to
the Severn Valley Railway station building
- Changes to the entrance junction to the railway station from
the A448 Comberton Hill
The objectives are to provide a facility to integrate bus and
rail services in Kidderminster; improve information on bus and rail
services available at the railway station and provide for all modes
of travel (e.g. bus, rail, cycle, walk, taxi and park &
ride).
The facility will link with developments taking place in
Kidderminster town centre and provide a suitable gateway to the
town. All elements of the scheme will work with the heritage
setting of the station area created by the Severn Valley
Railway.

Funding update - the majority of the funding for this project is
beingprovided by the Department for Transport and the Government
has made clear its most urgent priority is to tackle the United
Kingdom's budget deficit, in order to restore confidence in the
economy and support the recovery. As part of this, Ministers have
made it clear that, at least until the conclusion of the spending
review in October 2010, the Department will not release any funding
for small schemes of £5million or less that had been prioritised
for funding under the previous Government's programme. This
includes the Kidderminster Rail Station Scheme.
As such work on the project is on hold and our previous views on
what could be built and when will need to be revisited if and when
funding becomes available.
However planning permission for the Station Forecourt works has
now been granted by Worcestershire County Council and preparations
are also being made to resurface and improve Comberton Hill.
These works start on Wednesday August 18th and
will involve carrying out improvements to the pavement on Comberton
Hill between the junctions with George Street to the junction with
Lea Street. The works will last for three weeks until Friday
September 10th. The works will involve resurfacing the footpaths
and replacement of the kerbstones.
We are also currently reviewing street furniture on Comberton
Hill following the project consultation and any views that you have
on the following would be most welcome:

Pedestrian signposts (Similar to those in Kidderminster town
centre)
