Gritting
When icy conditions are forecast we will undertake precautionary
gritting of 1,300km of the county's roads. All 'A' roads are
included as well as busy 'B' and 'C' roads. These routes are shown
on the following maps:
Key:
- Red routes are the precautionary routes
- Blue routes are the secondary routes
- Green routes are those covered by cross boundary agreements
with neighbouring counties
- Blue dotted routes are turning circles
Grit Bins
Grit bins are located in strategic positions around the county
and are provided for use of the public Highway only (carriageway
and footway).
New grit bins may be installed if the proposed location meets
set criteria. Requests for new grit bins are assessed against
pre-determined criteria, including the gradient of the road,
proximity of bends and junctions, level of traffic use, number of
premises/residential dwellings and proximity of more vulnerable
residents
To apply for a grit bin to be installed please contact the Hub
on 0845 607 2005.

The Team
The Winter Maintenance team operates a fleet of 28
gritters, 4 towable gritters and has a database of other local
contractors who can be called on if necessary to keep the road
network flowing.
Up to 12,000 tonnes of salt can be used in a full gritting
season, although during last winter's extreme weather 20,000 tonnes
was required.
Routine treatment of the highway network covers over 1,300km of
Worcestershire's roads.
