Bewdley Public Realm Improvements and Air Quality Management Area Exercise

A project to see improvements to Bewdley has been prioritised by Worcestershire County Council. It aims to address the air quality issues faced by the town and is consistent with the objectives of the third Worcestershire Local Transport Plan (LTP3).

From previous discussions with local stakeholders, it has become clear that a number of elements should be considerd for the town centre. Specifically:

  • Removal of AQMA
  • Reduction in congestion
  • Reduction in speeds
  • Infrastructure improvements for sustainable transport
  • Increase in sustainable network provision
  • Introduction of attractive public realm
  • Improvements to safety

To tackle the air quality issues around Welch Gate we intend to trial a temporary queue and traffic relocation system along Welch Gate for a month. This will take place during February and March 2012. We do not anticipate much disruption to your normal journey during this trial. If the trial is successful, the scheme will be pursued in the next financial year.

With limited funding available to achieve improvements to Bewdley public realm, it is important to prioritise accordingly. Hence, this pre-consultation exercise aims to help develop a preferred package of measures for Bewdley that falls within the budget available 2013/14 and inform forward planning.

Chance to have your say until March 31, 2012

To help prioritise improvement work residents and businesses in Bewdley are being asked how they feel funding should be allocated to best improve the area's sustainable transport infrastructure and attractiveness. This could include work to improve shared cycling/pedestrian paths, bus shelters, street lighting, seating areas, pedestrian crossings, cycle parking and signage.

The County Council is inviting people to have their say by either filling in a simple Bewdley scheme online questionnaire. Alternatively a hard copy consultation brochure is available to download on this webpage. These can be printed off and sent through to sent through to:

Transport Consultation Team, Worcestershire County Council, County Hall, H1 Pavilion, Spetchley Road, Worcester, WR5 2NP.
