Food Safety
One important area that Trading Standards are involved with
is the safety of food. The law requires that food supplied to
consumers must:
- Not be harmful to health.
- Be of the nature, substance and
quality expected by the consumer.
- Not be falsely described.
This is true whether you are importing food, manufacturing it
yourself or simply selling it to customers.
There are many laws relating to food safety. Foods like sausages
and jam are controlled by specific legislation. Some products like
bread must comply with food law, but also have to comply with
weights & measures law as well.
And what about allergies and genetically modified foods as well
as recalling a food that doesn't comply with the law?
