Walking Initiatives

Why Walk to/from School?
- Walking is a practical way of getting around that can be part
of the daily routing for most people.
- It can benefit health and improve fitness.
- Pedestrians can appreciate sights along a route which may go
unnoticed when travelling by car.
- Carbon dioxide emissions and traffic congestion around the
school can be reduced.
- Reduced traffic can improve safety in the area outside
school.
Children are recommended to take at least 60 minutes exercise of
moderate intensity each day for good physical and mental
development: The School Run provides an excellent way to
incorporate this into young people's (and adult's!) daily routine.
Being physically active can:
- Help develop physical strength and stamina.
- Offer opportunities to make friends.
- Improve self esteem and confidence.
- Help develop a sense of community and responsibility.
- Help control personal weight.
Some initiatives from school are already in place,
which include:

WoW (Walk Once a
Week / Walk on Wednesday)

Mapping Walking Routes to School
Worcestershire County Council produce a variety of
