Home Energy Monitors

What are they?

Home energy monitors are gadgets that monitor how much electricity you are using at any time of the day and show you how much it is costing you. They are easy to fit and require no tools or technical know how.

To install you simply clip one part around a cable coming out of your electricity meter. It wirelessly connects with the display unit, which can be placed conveniently around your house.

There are several different models available, ranging in price from £25-£100 depending on the functions they have. A list of recommended models can be found lower down on this page.

Why would I want one?

They can really help you to reduce the amount of electricity you use. Saving you a lot of money!

How can they save me money?

  1. The monitors clearly remind you exactly how much money you are spending on electricity at any time, making it easier for you to change your energy use habits.
  2. They show you which appliances in your house are high energy consumers; an electricity monitor will show you exactly how much each an appliance is costing you so you can work out whether it would be more cost effective to replace it for a more efficient model.
  3. When you leave the house a monitor makes it easy to check only the essential items still running, like the fridge and freezer.

Where can I get one?

You can buy one from any good homewares/Do It Yourself (DIY) shop or you can rent one from your local library.
