Broadband Availability

Can I Get Broadband now?

British Telecom have indicated that they will be investing in broadband in the following areas by the end of 2012.

It depends mainly on where you are situated.  BT is currently rolling out superfast broadband to 2/3 of the population nationally by 2015. 12 Exchanges in Worcestershire have already been upgraded, however, not all cabinets on an exchange will be enabled. Those that won't be enabled may be those which have few premises linked to them, or which are further from an enabled exchange. BT's experience to date shows that around 70 - 80% of street cabinets on an enabled exchange will be upgraded with fibre. Worcestershire's Local Broadband Plan (LBP) will intervene in areas where there is market failure. This refers to those areas where the private sector are not planning to roll out broadband.

Our specific broadband speed and coverage requirements are detailed further in our LBP via further engagement with businesses and communities.

  • 90% of businesses in Worcestershire to have the ability to access Superfast Broadband by 2015
  • Everyone in the county to have access to broadband speeds of at least 2Mbps
  • Superfast Broadband available for 90% of the County by 2015.

It is expected we will deploy a range of solutions appropriate to the needs of businesses and local communities.

Broadband Facts

According to BT Openreach, a massive 80% of people would be put off buying a new home if it didn't have a good broadband connection – up from 69% a year ago. At the same time, 57% would pay more for a house with superfast broadband (defined as over 30Mbps from 30th Apr 2012).
