Dementia Care
The Care Services Quality Team is committed to raising awareness
and standards in dementia care.
To this aim, we currently work with Dementia Care Matters,
University of Worcester and Age Concern Hereford and
Worcester offering support to those homes working towards
Worcestershire County Council's dementia standard via learning
opportunities and conferences.
Success for Dementia Care Training Programme
It is great to report that the dementia care
training programme for care home staff is now fully operational,
and we are really pleased to report that following their attendance
on 'leadership' training courses ten local homes have now been
recognised by the County Council as achieving the Worcestershire
Dementia Standard.
The successful homes are:
- Dunley Hall
- St Stephens
- Offmore Farm
- The Mill House
- Regents Court
- Hopwood Court
- Waterside
- The Chace
- Haversham House
- Cedar Lodge
We currently have another twelve homes on the
second leadership course and will be running a third course later
this year, with all participating homes due to be assessed against
the standard before the end of March 2011.
Specialist and self-awareness training will
also be available from September 2010 onwards to support a wider
cross section of staff within care homes, with priority given to
staff from those homes which have participated in the leadership
course where demand exceeds supply.
Given the present level of interest in the
programme we fully anticipate that we will offer a similar range of
training in 2011/12 and 2012/13, though we will review the
situation each year.
We are also exploring options for dementia
care training for other health and social care staff across the
county, based on the principles and good practice advocated by
Dementia Care Matters.
Below is a copy of the local dementia
standard for care homes and a letter explaining how the training
programme works.
