Nursing and Rehabilitation
Timberdine Nursing and Rehabilitation Unit
Awarded Customer Service Excellence Status in
recognition of excellent service for the last 3 years.
Recent refurbishment
Timberdine Nursing and Rehabilitation Unit was built in
1977, then refurbished in 1997 and 2011. It is a single storey
building with separate living areas, a dedicated Stroke Unit is
being built which will have 5 nursing places and 3 residential
places. There are also two day centres, including specialist
Dementia care.
The reconfiguration of Timberdine is the culmination of a
partnership between Worcestershire County Council, Worcestershire
Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and NHS Worcestershire. The aim has been
to redesign the provision of stroke and rehabilitation services for
patients from Worcester, Droitwich and Ombersley.
From 1 August 2011 these new integrated health and social
care community resources replaced the rehabilitation services
previously provided by the Aconbury Unit at Worcestershire Royal
Hospital. Timberdine Nursing and Rehabilitation
Unit is a dedicated unit which provides nursing care, residential
care and rehabilitation for patients who continue to need 24 hour
care and rehabilitation following admission to the
acute.
First-hand experience: Stuart's story
"Twelve
and a half hours after being wheeled down to theatre for major
surgery to remove a tumour from his spine, Stuart Townsend was
finally reunited with his family in a critical care ward in
hospital unsure whether the marathon operation he had just endured
had left him permanently paralysed. He was understandably groggy
and lay still in his bed, unable to feel his legs.
These were the early and understandably challenging first stages
of a lengthy and personal journey toward recovery, which would make
the 32-year-old father of three the youngest temporary resident of
a recently reconfigured Worcestershire County Council run
rehabilitation centre in Worcester."
