Latest

The Governing Body published a public notice advertising their intention to close the Nursery Class from 31 August 2011. A copy may be downloaded below. No comments or objections were received by the closing date of 28 January 2011 and the Local Authority took the final decision to close the Nursery Class at the meeting of the County Council Cabinet on 7 April 2011.

Background

The Headteacher and Governing Body have been discussing the provision of pre-school education for a number of months. The school has a Local Authority Nursery for 3-4 year olds and alongside a school run pre school provision for 2-4 year olds. A number of parents and carers have opted for the school run provision as this allows greater flexibility: children are able to attend part time or full days. In the Local Authority Nursery children attend for 3 hours a day. As a result the numbers of pupils on roll at the Local Authority nursery class have been declining over the last three years.

Proposal

It is the intention of the Governing Body to increase the number of places available in the privately run pre school. This will allow parents and carers a more flexible provision, not limiting the hours to 15 and not restricted to mornings (as the LA nursery does at the present time). Children over the age of 3 years will be able to claim their 15 hours entitlement in the pre school.

Consultation

There was a public meeting on 19 October 2010, at 6.00pm in the school Hall, where members of the Governing Body were  available to explain about the proposal and answer questions. There then followed a period of consultation until 22 November where all those with an interest could state their views.

Following the consultation a report was presented to the Governing Body in December 2010.
