Children's Services Mapping
As part of our ongoing process of analysing the needs of
Children and Young People in Worcestershire, Children’s Services
have embarked on a mapping project to help identify need at a local
level.
We hold a large amount of data and information which can help us
to plan how we deliver our services, and this project is about
looking at all the different neighbourhoods and areas which make up
Worcestershire and identifying areas of particular need.
Using the expertise built up by the Research and Intelligence
Unit, interactive maps of Worcestershire have been created, and
these can be used by practitioners, managers, and the public to
find out in detail about all localities in the county. Various
different indicators, including information on population,
attainment, health and the economy have been mapped at Super Output
Area (SOA) level. Worcestershire is split into 361 SOAs allowing us
to focus on the needs in specific parts of Worcestershire, without
identifying individual children.
The information gained through this project will form an
integral part of the new
Children and Young People Plan for Worcestershire.

provides a greater range of functions than previously available.

Quick tips for using Instant Atlas Mapping
Information is displayed in a number of formats all on one
screen - tables, maps, and charts showing comparative values.
The site is fully interactive and if you hover the mouse over
any area of data you will see the relevant sections highlighted.
Different ‘indicators’ (e.g. level of obesity, or children speaking
English as an additional language) can be chosen by clicking on the
‘Data’ button on the left to access a drop down menu. The ‘Filter’
button allows users to choose one particular cluster area to focus
on from a choice of 11. ‘Resources’ such as schools and Children’s
Centres, and ‘background mapping’ can be toggled on and off as
necessary.
We have also created a more detailed User
Guide.
